Alesund

This sail through the Nordfjord is one of the most spectacular sails as the ship goes through small islands and skerries before reaching Alesund. This is the only part of our journey in the open sea. Hopefully while on board we may get to see the Northern Lights for the first time. However before that an exploration into Alesund, a place renowned for its Art Nouveau Architectural style. Our walk started in the snow covered streets and we saw some shop windows with some styles of traditional costumes. As we moved along we noticed the cars had snow tyres on and that would be very necessary in these conditions.

Obviously there are lots of things to see and apart from the beautiful buildings there are lots of styles of Trolls. We had lots of fun checking them out and tried to imagine just who they looked like. The buildings and shops were so interesting and a good talk by Kelli gave us a background to this delightful place. Not a lot of time to take it all in as we were on the move so we didn’t miss anything.

Next a bit of a hike up to a viewing point above the town and the views were fabulous. We could see a large area from area and it gave an
insight into this lovely town of Alesund. Then it was time to head back to the ship and continue our journey.
