Antwerpen and Amsterdam

An early breakfast this morning before leaving hotel at 7.45am on the way to Amsterdam via Antwerpen, Belgium, for a lunch stop. Arriving in Antwerpen around lunch time we
were surprised to see it was a little reminicent of Brussels. Lovely town with tall buildings mainly around what appeared to be
a town square. Many statues and towers could be seen and even though it was cold we set off to explore the small streets around. Not a lot of people out here - just us and so it was great to
walk the cobblestoned streets and look at the old, unique buildings.

The Church was in the centre of the town, and outside were some statues building or doing maintenance. It gave the town some character and we all enjoyed a
quick lunch to sustain us on the next part of our journey. Of course we had to buy some belgium Chocolates here as well before leaving....On the way to Amsterdam we
had a stop to look and take pictures of a windmill...Nice break!

Our coach was very comfortable and the driver was excellent! He made very good time according to our guide and so we arrived a little
early to our dock at Amsterdam where the "Sound of Music" Rivership was waiting for us. First sight told us we were in for a great cruise! The crew were waiting for us and
our room was just lovely! Very comfortable and clean. Soon we were off on a canal boat cruise to see the water side of Amsterdam.
|
When we left the dock noticed our ship the "Marco Polo" had berthed next to us. We have had trips on it before
and loved our cruises! The homes scattered along the canals were so interesting and people were everywhere just doing
everyday things. We noticed lots of bike parks and bike rental stations as many people in Amsterdam ride bikes throughout the city.
After a delightful cruise with lots of commentry by Kai, our "Sound of Music" Tour Director, we visited the small flower market in the city.
The show of tulips were colourful, even though they were just beginning to bloom. The bulbs were everywhere and it was obvious that
lots of Dutch people plant these for beautiful showings.
