After 3 days at sea, having a lovely time meeting people and exploring the ship, we arrived at Auckland, New Zealand. The Harbour is a bustling place and the Sky Tower stands out in the distance ,most interesting was the hotel right next to where we docked!!

A ship excursion to see some of the beautiful gardens that Auckland has to offer was next on our itinerary. After a bit of a city tour we arrived at The Winter Garden. It was designed in 1900 and opened in 1913 and houses wonderful and rare plants in 2 Victorian style glass houses! There are lots of marble statues scattered around and the flowers are just amazing.

Then we were off again in our coach and had the opportunity to see many buildings and structures including The Museum as we drove by.
|
This time our stop was to visit the Parnell Rose Garden or Nancy Stein Memorial ... Also known as Pohutukawa Garden, where a lot of Auckland's native trees are to be seen. The roses were spectacular as were the many types of flowers that we could see..
|
The Michael Joseph Savage Memorial, a tribute to the first Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand and the founder of the Welfare State was our next stop. The park offers panoramic views over Whenua Rangatira, Auckland city and Waitemata Harbour. A lovely walk around here and wonderful views of the city and harbour. We were lucky to see a wedding taking place and what a delightful setting for that!!.
