Buckingham Palace

A Royal Day Out, is the plan for today and Buckingham Palace is not too hard to find. Off again on the underground and soon we were in Buckingham Street where a quick bite to eat was the order of the day. The souvenir shop (of which there are many!) was right next door and there was memorabilia of Prince George's birth for all to buy. We did resist however and were soon off to visit The Place itself. We lined up to check our tickets in and then were able to walk the majestic red carpeted staircase that leads into the Palace. No photos in here but a magnificent, lived in building with so much to see. We had headphones to hear the commentary which allowed us to visit at our own pace. . A delightful tour that took quite some time!

The exit for us tourists was at the back of the Palace where there was a lovely garden cafe set up. The facade was very interesting and the whole building very well kept. The gardens were magnificent and the grounds were just lovely. The princes used to play out there and one can see how they would have loved it. There is a stream that has many kinds of wildlife around it and the many ducks and geese are prominent as well. After walking out the gates and managing to find Mat, a young friend from Australia, we celebrated with a drink (in my case a Guiness) and discussed our adventures so far.
