A delightful trip this morning and the weather was a little cooler here today. We watched the bigger cruise ships in the harbour moving around to get to their berths and then we docked as well. After disembarking we followed the streets that seemed to wind through the city. Wonderful buildings and beautifully kept shop fronts and walkways. There were lots of wonderful things to buy here such as Jensen's jewellery and many amber outlets. The town Hall was one of the places we dropped into and the foyer was decorated with paintings. The reception room could be seen from the entrance and was very elegant. A statue of Hans Christian Andersen stood nearby and brought back memories of our childhood.

The Tivoli Gardens were our next port of call and we waited until opening time and walked around to enjoy the atmosphere of this wonderful amusement park. Restaurants abound and the gardens are alive with colour. The rides were brilliant but we thought that a night visit would be the way to go.

Back on the trail down towards the harbour we enjoyed the ambience of the streets and noted many statues and fountains on the way. We even passed a Guiness Book of Records shop with a statue of the world's tallest man outside.

Walking along the canal banks we saw many Danish people out having lunch at the outdoor cafes. Turning the corner we came across Frederiksgade where Mary and Frederik's Palace is located. There is a large square here with a central statue sitting on the cobblestone surface. The guards were positioned in front of the Palaces and we just missed the Changing of the Guard. After looking around we noticed the Marble Church just behind the Palace Square. This building began in 1749 but not completed until 1894. The dome of the church is 257ft high and the church itself is surrounded with statues of famous figures in eccliesiastical history. The church is now known as Frederik's Church and the interior is absolutely magnificent.

On the way back to the ship we passed a museum which had an enormous amount of statues on display. The people who worked in the building welcomed us in to have a look and we were surprised to discover about three floors for us to look at. One of the replicas that was outstanding is the Dying Gaul. How very lifelike these images are and we really enjoyed the visit. After leaving we walked along the waterfront and came across the famous Little Mermaid sitting on her rock. She looks very happy on this beautiful waterfront area and keeps an eye on the sea. Another delightful sail out in the afternoon and we were looking forward to another city tomorrow.
