Darwin
Up nice and early to catch the beautiful Sunrise over Darwin. Our sail in was spectacular with the sun putting on a wonderful show for us and worth the early rise. As we entered the port a helicopter of news people circled the ship as it was the first time Ovation had come to Darwin. The small boats gave a water cannon welcome and the sound of music came across the water. A didgeridoo player and lone drummer played wonderful Aboriginal music to welcome us to their culture. What a fabulous start to a wonderful day in Darwin.

Our ship tour today is to see The Jumping Crocodiles and it will be a highlight of the cruise. We left Ovation quite early to have lots of time and drove sometime out of Darwin City seeing some of suburbia before coming to the wetlands and farms along the way. We did see the remaining airstrip that runs along the roadway as we traveled towards our destination. We were soon at The Original Famous Jumping Crocodile Cruise location where we were met by staff who explained what we were about to see and experience. This particular cruise is run by The Adelaide River Queen Cruises and assured us they had a lot of experience and we would see lots of crocodiles. We boarded our cruiser and had to stay where we choose to sit and so loved for a spot with good view even though everyone could see very well. After leaving the dock, it was not long before our guide tempted the first one to jump for food. Absolute wonderful experience and tour and given these animals are in their own natural environment, the excitement was second to none. Great day was had by all.

After a fabulous cruise and many crocodiles and seeing many wild birds flying over the water it was time to leave and visit the Wetlands Museum on the way back. All 0f the animals in the area were on display in picture or image and the views from outside over the picturesque countryside were delightful.

Unfortunately, soon it was time to return to the dock area where we enjoyed a walk around and discovered the Wartime Tunnels. A very helpful Tunnel volunteer explained that this was an historical area in Darwin, with the Tunnels being built during the war to keep fuel in case of attacks by the Japanese during the war. A wander through was extremely interesting as much history is shown on the walls and by artefact here and we felt that the whole experience was well worth the visit.
