Dover is a typical English town with lots of character and history. On our way we visited St Mary's Church in the main street and
noted the wonderful stained glass windows. After walking through the streets of Dover we set off to walk up the hill to visit Dover Castle.

This castle was built by Henry 11 in the 1180's by Maurice the Engineer. It replaced a castle that was built by William of Normandy in 1066.
The grounds are extensive and the walls and old buildings are well preserved.
There is a network of tunnels underneath the castle grounds that became the nerve centre of the British defence in 1940. There were 700 staff here during the worst days of World War 11.
Today tourists and others can see how the tunnels worked and conditions that existed in those times. The Underground Hospital and the Command Centre are open for tours.

Back down to the town and we had to stop at a local shop for some genuine fish and chips. We enjoyed that and then off to the local pub for a beer to end the day.

Well, time once again to leave and this sail out is spectacular as we get to see the White Cliffs of Dover and it's quite a clear day.
These cliffs are one of England's most celebrated sights.
