Hoi An

A lunch time Vietnam Airlines flight to Da Nang began our next leg of the adventure. After a short flight we arrived at Da Nang Airport and met our new guide and a 45 minute drive past many new hotels under construction saw us arrive in Hoi An. This popular town sits on the banks of the Thu Bon River just 30kms south of Da Nang. One visits this exquisite town to explore its Heritage and its history. UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Site and the local authorities have made it a pedestrian area only with the exception of bikes, cyclos and motorbikes. This allows everyone to walk and check out the French architecture and the many other places of interest. At night the shops show off traditional lanterns and the many art galleries along Tran Phu Street.

The weather was very hot and we got caught in a heavy downpour so we spent sometime in a small cafe talking to other tourists and getting some more hints about shopping and sightseeing. This town is renowned for its many cafes and restaurants and realxed atmosphere so holidays can be enjoyed to the fullest here. A walk down around the river allowed us to mix with the locals and begin to get the feel of such a quaint place. Our hotel, the ThuyDuong 3 was very comfortable and a welcome place to stay. The rooms were great and the pool most welcome! About 5kms east of town down Tran Hung Dao Street is Cau Dai Beach. Plenty of white sand and clear water waits for those who want a delightful swim....

After ordering some tailor made clothes we ventured out again down some unexplored roads and ended up at the local market. There were lots of items to buy here, clothes, food, timberware and much more so a bit of shopping was done after much haggling with the sellers. Hoi An is a restful place to come and visit but beware when crossing the road! The riders and drivers are not as orderly as others in Vietnam and sometimes you have to move very quickly!!
