Isle of Pines
Captain James Cook was the first European to discover Isle of Pines in 1774 on his second voyage to New Zealand. He gave the island its name after seeing the tall native pines for which it is famous. We were welcomed by the local dancers and were impressed with the wonderful scenery of this island. It was time to find our tour that we had booked and soon we were off to see as much of the Isle of pines as we could.

A highlight for us was the wood carvings at Kanak Bay. These were placed around a religious monument and the backdrop of the sea added to the magnificence of the area. Then we were off to see the Church and a prison that has deteriorated over the years but never the less fascinating to visit as part of the history of the Island.
