9 Degrees today in Odessa and we all rugged up before alighting the ship. Outside the terminal was a lovely statue of a mother and baby and from here we could see the famous Potemkin Steps. These steps have a fascinating history as there was a famous battle here in 1905 between sailors and the Czar's soldiers. An odd thing here is that you cannot see the steps from the top - only landings but from the bottom they are in plain sight. Apparently this is an optical illusion. From here we walked the Primorskie Boulevarde and then along some of the beautiful streets here.

It was marvellous to see all the wonderful statues scattered around on the fascades, and the buildings themselves were amazing. All well maintained and the styles were indicative of times gone by. We then came across a lovely, huge park and found many souvenir stalls located on one side. The art work was incredible and of course a few souvenirs had to be bought.

We soon came across a large complex that had a shop of every kind! As we had been on the go a rest and revival stop was on the cards and we just had to buy a bottle of vodka to take back with us. They came in every size and we chose one the size of a drink bottle. The street signs were there but we couldn't understand the language but there were some very helpful policeman around thank goodness!

Weddings were everywhere here and it seemed that having photos taken in and around the streets and near prominent buildings was very much the done thing. The wedding dresses were amazing and it was lovely to see so many happy couples.

The Opera and Ballet House is one of the most reviered structures in the Ukraine and is also known as one of the most beautiful theatres in the world. There are many magnificent statues in and around the building. Inside the baroque style theatre is a chandelier that weighs more than two tons and is surrounded by frescoes depicting scenes from Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Next visit was to the the Archeological Museum, which is easy to recognize by the statue of Laocoon. This museum is known to have over 160,000 exhibits and covers many cultures like Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.

On the way back to the ship we walked along the famous Primorskiy Boulevarde and the trees on the sides of the road were ablaze in autumn colours. Many locals were out walking and enjoying the late afternoon ambience and so were we! Of course we spotted more brides and that just finished our day....
