Our flight with Emirates left Sydney at 7.45pm on Friday, 30th September, 2016 heading for Dubai, where we will change planes for Prague, our
starting city for another Travelmarvel holiday. We are doing a 24 Day Eastern Europe & European Gems River Cruise and very excited to be travelling
with the tour company again! On arrival in Prague, Czech Republic, our representative was waiting to take us to The Grandior Hotel where we will begin our adventure. After a
welcome Reception and a good night sleep we boarded our coach in the morning and off to see the fabulous Prague Castle courtyard and the
outside of St Vitus Cathedral. There was so much to see wandering around this 9th century castle it was a great start to the tour.
|
We met lots of our group wandering around, taking in the sights and before long it was time to walk down into the town to take a look at
shops and restaurants and people doing their daily tasks. Every city has a different feel and it is always a delight to be able to explore on your own.
|
Next off to cross the Charles Bridge. This historical landmark crosses the Vitava River and is among other things a cultural meeting place for
artists, musicians and the like, as well as providing the most glorious views of this magnificent city. The bridge itself is something to be seen as the
construction is awesome and the statues that are placed on it are just amazing.
|
Then on our list of must sees was the Astronomical Clock in Prague Town Old Square. It was built in 1410 during the medieval period and is the oldest
one in the world still working. The crowds of people watching the figures pop out on the hour showed what an interesting piece of architecture this fabulous
clock is, and it never seems to amaze everyone watching. The Powder Tower nearby attracts many visitors and it signifies the entrance to the Old Town. The map shows
our journey for the next 24 days and our tour guide, Matej was just brilliant and ensures that we had everything we needed and had lots of information to
know all about our travels.
|
As there is so much to see here are a few more wonderful pictures of Prague Castle and the palaces that are scattered around in it.
The architecture of the buildings is just so delicate and well preserved that the heritage of Prague will be around for a very long time for
people to admire.
|
Then it was off to see Nelahozeves Castle, a regal Renaissance castle that was full of modern art and many unique masterpieces. Here we indulged in a wine tasting of their own wines and a delightful well earned lunch.
