Ronne is the capital of Bornholm and is in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Many territorial disputes were carried out between the Danes, Swedes and Germans in early times and in 1660 the people gave themselves to King Frederik 111 of Denmark. The town was bombed after World War 11 ended leaving devastation behind. The town has been rebuilt and now has a flourishing tourist season in the summer months. Ronne's industries are trade based with fish, fish processing, crafts and glassblowing. There is also a pottery trade as there is lots of local clay in the area.

The white Church, Nicolai Kirke, was down near the harbour front and was very unique as it was dedicated to fisherman. There was a sailing boat hanging from the ceiling and a painted picture behind the altar of a boat in a storm. A wonderfully different church to visit. We also passed the lighthouse poised on the top of a hill looking out to sea. This town's character is very much based on the sea and its wealth.
