Rüdesheim is a town in the Rhine Valley, Germany. As we dock we see the Winzerexpress mini train that we caught last time into the town.
Its a different way of getting there but we chose to walk in and see as much as we can. Lovely buildings here and unique streets and soon we were at
Siegfrieds Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum. This was something not to miss here in Rudesheim. A talk on many different instruments by a
very informative young lady who demonstrated each one as we went on. The sounds of so many types of musical instruments was amazing. The collection
is so very comprehensive and the clocks and other items of time gone by give the place the feel of history. Great visit and much to see.

Rudesheim is famous for its wines, especially Riesling wines, and so our next adventure was a ride on the cable car overlooking the
vineyards below. What a great way to see the scenery below and to admire all the green vineyards as you glide to the top. Very soon we saw
The Niederwald Monument which was quite spectacular. Beautiful views of the river below and the countryside for quite some distance. The two person
cable tram as they call it has plenty of room to be able to see everywhere and take lots of pictures to remember the beauty of the area.

The cable car station was in the centre of the town so not far to walk and find shops and cafes and local people out doing their daily
tasks. A stop at the local cafe or coffee shop was high on our list of to does. So, sitting down, we soon were asked if we would like a Rudesheim coffee.
Of course we would as Rudesheim is so well known for this drink. It is coffee, made with Asbach Brandy, which is lit at your table. Then coffee, sugar,
milk and cream are added and then you are set to enjoy it. Amazing and shame we could only fit one in. Then a stroll around the streets and checked
out the colourful windows before going back to the ship to cruise the best part of the trip, The Rhine Gorge.

This is the highlight of our journey, the Rhine Gorge. It is known as the most beautiful part of the Rhine River and it did not disappoint. Lovely views were everywhere you looked, castles, vineyards, churches and the river itself. My favourite was the Burg Pfalzgrafenstein at Kaub. This was the toll collection Station on the river and was in such a position that no ships could pass with out paying. It is so bright with its white and reddish colour, just looks so spectacular in the water that one cannot help but admire it. There were so many other castles just as special on the hills and edges of the river that they seemed to be popping up all the time. Fabulous sail here. We also passed Loreley, the Mermaid on the Rock, warning sailors of treacherous waters of the river. We stood on the top deck and marvelled at the scenery going by and wished it would take forever to get to our next destination, however time marvelled on had to continue our journey to Andernach for the night. The Captain was a delightful gentleman who welcomed us on and off the ship at each dock and it was great to see him out enjoying the views too..
