Wellington
Wellington is capital city of New Zealand and is situated on the North Island. Coming into the dock we could see the many large and imposing buildings as well as signage for The Hobbit. Looks like it will be a fabulous place to walk around and enjoy all it has to offer

Our first stop was to ride The Red Wellington Cable Car to the top where we could then walk through the Botanic Gardens. After buying our tickets, we jumped on the tram and were delighted to see the wonderful views as we went higher and even through small tunnels. It was not a long ride but certainly worthwhile! Then a beautiful walk through the gardens, passing the many colourful plants and flowers and even a lovely waterfall. Near the bottom we came across The Seddon Memorial, a tribute to Richard John Seddon, New Zealand's longest serving Prime Minister.

A long walk along the waterfront was our next plan and we enjoyed the ambience of the many activities going on along the foreshore. Dancing, swimming and even a piano if one feels like playing is all on offer for locals and visitors alike.

At the end of our walk we came to a highlight of the visit..the Te Papa Museum of New Zealand. It is the most visited Museum in Australasia and was opened in 1998. Walking past a giant squid gave us an introduction to the fascinating exhibits we would soon see. The history and culture of the Maori Nation is beautifully presented and so interesting. Middle Earth was featured heavily and it took sometime time to read and look at the many items on display. There are many Museum Guides walking around who are very helpful and explain anything that you may need more information on. The Scale of War exhibit is one not to be missed, 7 soldiers and a nurse are very imposing at 2.4 times the size of people today that represent New Zealanders at Gallipoli. Well worth a visit. I have put different photos up on the page as there is so much to see.

After such a fabulous visit it was time to have a cool beer on the sidewalk and reflect on what a wonderful day we had in Wellington.
