The day was pretty cool and overcast and we boarded a red Evans Evans coach for a day tour to Windsor Castle, Bath and
Stonehenge. Our tour leader, Alan was fantastic. He gave great information and was very informed about London and as it turned out, our destinations.
We passed some London icons on the way and noted the Chapel where Prince Charles and Camilla were married when we arrived at Windsor.

At Windsor Castle we walked up to the entrance to get our tickets. Then we were on our own to explore the castle. It was very impressive and the size of it was quite amazing being so large and spread out.
There were good paved areas to walk on and views of the many buildings that make up the castle. Of course we didn't know what each one was but thanks to our audio guides, went to visit The State Apartments first.
The State Apartments are lavishly decorated formal rooms still used for state and official functions. In the Apartments there is many pieces of work by such artists as Canaletto, Holbein, Leonardo da Vinci,
Rembrandt, Rubens and Van Dyck. Entering the formal staircase opens your eyes to Royalty as the many suits of armour and weapons on display show the strength and protection of
the Royal household. Many beautiful rooms are on show but St George's Hall was one that really shone. The ceiling was incredible with all of the Knight's insignia's on display. When the Queen hosts a large
State dinner it is held here. No photos were allowed to be taken inside however but really there was no time to do so as there was so much to see.

Next it was to see The Changing of the Guard. This happens at 11am and is fantastic to see. The new Guards come along and then the Royal band
marches in. The Guard is provided by the resident regiment of Foot Guards in their full-dress uniform of red tunics and bearskins. After a lot of ceremony and music the old guard and the band march back out the main gates and through the town of Windsor.

The town of Windsor is a quaint, English town with much to see. The shops have antiques, souvenirs and of course many small restaurants where you
can get sandwiches, coffee and tea. A delightful visit to a wonderful place!
