Today we are doing a ship excursion the Melting Pot of Kuala Lumpur. It was an early start, and very soon after a quick departure
from Ovation we were on our coach bound for KL. The journey in was very interesting as we saw lots of residential units scattered around the
lush countryside. The roads and overpasses were amazing and the toll gates were very efficient and appeared not overly
expensive. On the way our driver explained that there was a marathon on in the city that had about 30,000 competitors so he
would do his best to avoid those roads. He did an excellent job as we missed them all and so our first stop was the Sky Tower and we
appeared to be the first ones there.
The Sky Tower is the Telecommunications Tower for Malaysia and has an observation deck that gives
a brilliant view of the city. It also has a restaurant deck and the top floors are just for telecommunication. So off to the Observation
Deck by way of the lift some 276 mtrs gave us the views we wanted to see. After a time, we came down, ready for our next adventure and
on leaving found some colourful macaws outside and also the Upside Down House! Didnt have a chance to visit but maybe next time. The start to
a great day!
Next visit was to see the Petronas Twin Towers. This awesome steel and glass structure made of concrete is a focal point of KL and
just looking up at the outside of it with the walkway between the towers is stunning. The bottom of the Towers consists of the Suria KLCC Mall,
where there are mainly upmarket, luxury shops of every kind along with technology plus stores. Many restaurants and cafes can be enjoyed as well.
The architecture of this building has to be seen to be believed! A shoppers delight and judging by the many people there very well used.
The next point of call was to see The National Mosque and The Railway Station. The Station itself is not used but stands as an
example of Colonial Architecture at its best. It was built in 1910 and has the Administration Office opposite and both buildings are of National
importance. Nearby by is The National Mosque that can house up to 15,000 people and has surrounding it approximately 48 smaller domes. There are
open areas within the grounds and the river flows through it and much to our delight we spotted something swimming in it but not sure what it was!
All too soon again, time to return to the ship and continue our sailing to Singapore. Wonderful day and lots of memories from KL.
